GO Counselor

JOB TITLE: GO Counselor REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or as assigned FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly JOB PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Educational Initiatives Director or assigned supervisor, the GO Club Counselor is responsible for the daily programming, constant communication with parents and staff. Must have great communication skills to help manage students, parents, and volunteers in a respectful manner. The staff represents the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its programs. All staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list): Interpret and administer all policies established by the YMCA, to all members, participants, employees, etc. Ensure the overall environment and experience provided in the GO Club Program through a well-managed program; while also keeping the atmosphere fun and enthusiastic. Implement curriculum and activities according to schedules. Notify Educational Initiatives Director or lead staff of any broken or malfunctioning equipment immediately. Responsible for keeping accurate count of assigned youth at all times using a face count, not just head count. Must be able to discuss a participant's experience at any time with a parent. Understand and implement all emergency drills as needed. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. Helping maintain program, including cleaning, equipment, and all records. Responsible for maintaining discipline in assigned group, as well as other youth as needed Requirements SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE: Must be 18 years old Must be an example of good moral behavior At least 6 months working and/or volunteering with children ages 5-13 Desire to work with children on a daily basis Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification. Preferred: Excellent written and oral communication skills Bilingual - English/Spanish Understand the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization Associates Degree or higher Special Education and/or Teacher Certification Salary Description $12-12.50 an hour
