Summary This position is located in the Emergency Department with the Division of Nursing Services with Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, NM. This position is to provide full technical and administrative supervision for the Emergency/Urgent Care Department. Incumbent assists with transport of patients to higher level of appropriate care. Plans and adjusts work schedules and operations to meet organizational objectives, priorities, deadlines, and standards of care. Assures nursing capabilities, staffing, and equipment requirements to meet the work demands, safety requirements, and accreditation standards, Develops an orientation plan for each new employee specific to their skills and the needs of the unit and agency. Facilitates employee participation for in-services and continuing education by scheduling staff to attend development programs, resulting in a more qualified and competent staff. Conducts meetings and conferences with subordinates and staff to explain work requirements, methods and procedures as needed and answers technical questions regarding work assignments. Participates in hospital committees such as the Transports, Blood Utilization, Domestic Violence, Nurse Executive Team, Emergency/Ambulatory Care, and Electronic Health Records. Evaluates employee's performance yearly; develops work improvement process as needed and recommends employee awards/recognition. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S) : Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Directing and managing nursing activities in all clinical areas as the unit supervisor. Assess plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in an emergency department facility setting; implement accreditation requirements; supervisor subordinate staff; prepare work performance plans, schedules and evaluate work performance of subordinate staff; as a supervisor initiate and submit required information to fill vacancy position, promote subordinate staff, give advice, counsel or instruction to subordinate staff on administrative matters, hear and resolve complaints from staff, effect disciplinary measures when needed.
