Hope For Youth's Residential Services Department provides community based, trauma informed, youth and family driven care to adolescents and young adults in Nassau and Suffolk County. Serving youth from varying points of entry with the child welfare system, juvenile justice system, and runaway and homeless youth/young adults, the opportunities to alter the trajectory for youth in need are abundant. Youth are supported 24/7 by a team of multi-disciplinary professionals, paraprofessionals, and agency administration that consistently meets standards for accreditation and licensing regulations. Senior Residential Counselors provide invaluable support to youth during their time with the agency. Although tasks may vary depending on program the Senior Residential Counselor is assigned to, the expectation for providing support to colleagues and youth is consistent. Senior Residential Counselors play a vital role in ongoing coaching and mentoring of residential counselors as well as role modeling of engagement with our youth for residential counselors working alongside them. To be a successful senior residential counselor you must become able and willing to do the following always: Function within the policies and procedures as outlined in the program practice guide and employee manual. Supervise and support residents using the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model without the need for therapeutic holds. Resolve resident issues and complaints. Achieves positive outcomes for residents including facilitating independent living workshops. Models the behavior all Residential Counselors should do. Adhere to state regulations and applicable code of conduct. Perform other resulting and necessary work to meet the needs and requirements of the clients, the program, Hope For Youth, oversight agency and any other regulatory obligations How you will generally spend your time in this job: 80% supporting youth (including documentation) 15% supporting residential counselors as shift leader, mentor, and coach 5% staff meetings/supervision/training To qualify for this job you need to have: High School Diploma or GED A valid driver's license Ability to: work flexible schedule Lift/move up to fifty (50) pounds Escort residents into the community and to appointments to service providers as needed Physically restrain a child or youth during a crisis situation (TCI Training is provided with focus on de-escalation techniques) Read/write reports and log entries, repetitive wrist/finger movements Operate a motor vehicle carrying up to 10 children and youth Support other projects as needed within the Residential Department Open to supervision and able to work as part of a team Role model appropriately; nurture, teach, and structure daily living setting Organize activities and engage youth throughout the shift Support the overall mission of Hope For Youth ongoing access to reliable vehicle and driving own vehicle for work H ere are some of the benefits of working for Hope For Youth! • Benefit eligibility commences on the first of the month following the first 30 days of employment • 90% Employer-paid medical premiums • Generous paid time off for all employees regularly working over 20 hours • Agency-funded Pension Plan • Pre-tax savings plans: self-directed 403(b), 529, FSA and HSA Accounts • Agency-paid life insurance and disability , and for some positions, long-term disability • Training programs and Tuition Assistance and free tuition credits are also available • Employees may be eligible for Student Loan Forgiveness Programs • Special Events and Recognition Awards • Meaningful work that makes a difference in the lives of children and families of Long Island! • Volunteer and Internship opportunities available within • Supportive like-minded, mission-driven co-workers Please include resume, cover letter and salary requirements.
