Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays. All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground. What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Fire Protection Specialist (Training & Safety Officer) responsible for developing and implementing the comprehensive fire protection training, safety and Hazmat programs including Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High- Yield Explosives (CBRNE). Typical assignments include: Keeping up to date on firefighting technology, tactics, strategy and required adjustments or recommendations for additional training for Fire Department personnel. Leading, conducting and instructing department personnel in all phases of fire protection, hazmat, response, technical rescue, fire prevention, emergency medical and disaster preparedness techniques. Developing and revising training objectives, lesson plans, performance standards, training bulletins and presentations, utilizing training videos, flip charts and other visual aids. Performing a full range of firefighting duties for all types of incidents to include fires, EMS, rescue, hazmat and assisting and supporting emergency planning and operations center functions during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activation. Serving as an Incident Safety Officer as emergency scenes and training evaluations per department's standard operation guidelines and procedures to develop and distribute health and safety information, investigate all occupational injuries, exposures and fatalities or other potentially hazardous conditions involving department vehicles, equipment or facilities. Firefighting Conditions of Employment: Maintain current EMS certification that was held upon hiring, such as EMT- B or EMT-Paramedic. Report for duty during inclement weather, natural disasters, & other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief & may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends (mandatory overtime, subject to recall to duty). Wear various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include respirators, masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, & armored vests, & equipment.
