Position: Youth Camping Rainbow Crew Member (ages 16-18) Dates: Session 1: June 24, 2023 - July 22, 2023 Session 2: July 29, 2023 - September, 2 2023 Location: Based out of Lake Wenatchee, WA, but local housing is not needed as crews camp together for their entire session. Project locations generally include national forests and parks throughout the state of Washington. Position Details: Build your future with Northwest Youth Corps. Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) has provided youth and young adults work opportunities in the great outdoors in a fun team-based learning environment that emphasizes personal growth and stewardship since 1984. NYC is partnering with the National Park Service to offer an award-winning program for youth and young adults who identify with the LGBTQ+ community the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience success. Crewmembers will learn valuable work and outdoor skills, create new friendships, learn more about the LGBTQ community and themselves, and make memories that will last a lifetime! A Better You : Earn money and potential school credit while gaining job skills and professional references needed to build your resume. Meet new people and build physical and mental strength while spending weeks immersed in the Northwest's wildest places. A Better Planet : Spend 4-5 weeks working on conservation projects such as tree planting, fuels reduction, invasive plant removal, trail construction, and fencing. Play a vital role in improving our public lands and the environment. Benefits/Tuition: Receive up to $1,665 ($333 per week) for participation in this service-learning program plus an additional $250 ($50 per week) in bonuses. Bonus amounts are based on reliability and safety. Participants also have the potential to earn high school credit for their time. There is a tuition cost for this educational program of $240 (4-week program) or $300 (5-week program) with scholarships available based on need. Hours: Though schedules can vary, most crews will conduct project work Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, crews will stay together to conduct resupply, shower, do laundry and participate in recreational activities (e.g., hike). During the week, crews will have a 30 minute lunch break as well as several rest/water breaks throughout the day. Required qualifications: -Proof of U.S citizenship -16-18 years old and a member of the LGBTQ+ community -Ability to hike several miles and be on foot for up to 8 hours per day -Able to camp for the entirety of the session away from modern conveniences (ex: phones, electronics, etc.) -Positive mental attitude, willingness to learn, and a team player -Desire to conserve natural spaces and make an impact on the environment -Ability to follow safety protocols Northwest Youth Corps is an Equal Opportunity Employer - Our core purpose is to provide opportunities for youth and young adults to learn, grow, and experience success.
