Position Summary: The AmeriCorps Family Navigator (Tax Member) will seek, foster, and strengthen relationships with organizations and agencies in the Lowcountry of South Carolina , including marketing the SC Thrive brand and promoting awareness of available programs in the tri-county area (Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties) . The Family Navigator (Tax Member) will support current sites through tax filing assistance, coordinate tax clinics, assist with the Trident United Way tax grant, and serve the community as a trained SC Thrive Benefits and Tax Counselor. Key Responsibilities Areas: Client Intake Greets clients coming into the sites Assists in gathering preliminary information on intake sheet Ensure that individuals have the proper taxpayer documents in order to receive services (W-2's, SSA cards, etc.) Verify that the taxpayer income does not exceed the maximum to qualify for our free income tax service Provide community asset building information Assist client in completing basic tax returns File returns electronically or gives paper copies to client to file Additional Responsibilities Provide high quality customer service to assist individuals in need with accessing work supports (i.e., public benefits), referrals and other resources that help families become financially stable Must maintain strict customer, staff and partner confidentiality for all personal information and documentation Complete time sheet accurately and submit timely to direct report Commit to a minimum of four hours one or more days per week from early January through the end of the Tax season Training Responsibilities: Complete the following SC Thrive-sponsored training: Benefits, Taxes, and Financial Stability Required Skills: Tax or tax law background useful but not necessary Display the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment while also being a self starter Intermediate to excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Internet functionality required Comfortable working a flexible schedule. Must be available some nights and weekends, as needed Must have a valid SC driver's license, required insurance, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to worksites in the tri-county area Reasonable Accommodations: The AmeriCorps program may be able to make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions
