POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the planning and execution of a comprehensive annual giving program designed to build operating support for the College. The Director supervises the annual fundraising programs, utilizing telephone, direct mail, internet and personal solicitations to increase annual gift income and the number of alumni donors. The work involves a high level of contact with individuals inside and outside the College and therefore requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills. The variety of duties implies the need for good time management, the ability to prioritize and excellent record keeping abilities. Access to sensitive materials assumes a high degree of confidentiality. Evening work and light travel may be required. Essential Functions Statement(s) Coordinates all annual giving solicitations for College constituencies to maximize giving and participation rates. Develops annual giving strategic and operations plans. Based on those plans, proposes yearly budget recommendations for the annual giving program. Administer budget to assure sound fiscal expenditures and management. Responsible for working with Major Gift Team to solicit Loras Fund leadership level gifts of $1,000 and higher from assigned major gift donors/prospects. Responsible for soliciting leadership level gifts of $1,000 and higher from alumni and non-alumni friends. Manages a portfolio of 30-50 prospective donors who are not yet ready for major gift solicitation, but capable of giving $1,000-$3,500 to the Loras Fund annually. Solicits for the acquisition, renewal and/or increase of donors capable of supporting the College. Implements direct mail and telemarketing strategies for targeted groups. Responsible for coordinating with alumni relations in planning and executing the College's annual day of giving. Responsible for the creation of all annual giving print, email, telephone and web script materials. Works closely with Advancement Services to increase the percentage of donors who take advantage of corporate matching gift programs. Works with Events and Stewardship Coordinator to ensure timely and appropriate stewardship of targeted donors. Makes recommendations for movement of assigned donors to major gift tracking. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of College programs and priorities and its administrative and financial organization. Develops and administers class agent, reunion giving, faculty/staff giving, senior gift and young alumni giving campaigns. Acts as College's liaison to the Iowa College Foundation. Represents the Advancement Office at College events and alumni functions. Writes proposals as they relate to assigned projects. Increases annual giving gift income and the number of alumni and parents who give to the College. Safeguards the confidentiality of departmental or office administration by exercising discretion in communicating information to faculty, students and staff, and handling of all departmental requests. Supports the mission and vision of the College and respect its Catholic tradition. Performs other duties as assigned. Experience: A minimum of one to three years of related work experience in a development office or non-profit environment, with direct experience in fundraising and donor relations. SKILLS & ABILITIES Other Requirements: Skilled in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices involved in developing and maintaining an effective annual giving program. Appreciation for and commitment to Catholic, liberal arts higher education. Demonstrated skills in gift solicitation. Strong organizational and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to motivate prospective donors. Ability to be an articulate spokesperson on behalf of the College. Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with a diverse constituency. Ability to lead, be creative, innovative and decisive. Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary. Ability to facilitate multiple projects, make decisions and meet deadlines. Ability to identify problems and to develop creative, timely and efficient solutions. Ability to manage and motivate volunteers effectively and efficiently.
